Discovering Your Purpose

PURPOSE

“When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable”-Myles Munroe

Why are YOU here?

Yes YOU.

Why are YOU here on earth?

With the billions of people already existing here on earth, why do you think you were brought in? If God in His infinite wisdom decided it was necessary to have you here too, it definitely was not for the fun of it; especially when our lives are time-bound.

Like pieces of a puzzle we are uniquely made to fill a spot and play a role in God’s grand scheme of events. Ephesians 2:10 makes it clear that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. Your assignment on earth was already prepared before you came; you are not here by luck or chance. Your full complement; including where you were born (Acts 17:26), your physique, talents and abilities have been thoughtfully designed and determined even before you were born (Jeremiah 1:5). This is to help you fulfill God’s purpose for you.  You matter so much to God. It is therefore pointless spending your life trying to be someone else. Everyone is unique.

The interesting thing is that our time to fulfill God’s purpose is limited. As sure as night follows day we will exit from this world at some point in time. The end game is not deathbut what is beyond death-accountability (Hebrews 9:27). What account are you going to give of your life when you meet your Creator? What better account is there to give than one that shows you have fulfilled the very purpose for which God the Judge brought you to earth? What better testimony is there to hear than ‘’Well done, good and faithful servant!...Come and share in your master’s happiness!’’(Matthew 25:21)

It will be a big shame and an utter waste of time and resources to have schooled, worked, toiled daily and gone through life’s ups and downs and be found outside of God’s Will for you.

In a world which glorifies lust, worships money and preaches self-gratification first, it is easy to get entangled in fleshly activities and prioritize things with no eternal value. Striving to be successful is good, but definitely not at the expense of your very soul which was redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

I admonish you not to live your life ‘as you like it’, or as you please, rather as God will have you live. Knowing your purpose and walking in God’s perfect will is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

The question naturally follows; “How do I know my purpose?” Go to God in prayer and solitude. Speak to the One who made you because He has the blueprint for your life.  Not only will He tell you the purpose. He will also show you how to go about it. He says to you in Philippians 2:13 that He works in you; providing you with the desire (will) and the power (ability) to act according to His good purpose. You are not alone, my dear friend. Guidance and help are constantly available.

He says to you again in Psalm 32:8 that He will guide you along the best pathway for your life. He will advise you and watch over you.

So dear reader, take a moment to reflect on your life. Are you walking according to God’s will? Are you fulfilling His purposes for you each and every day? Or are you whiling away the time satisfying your own pleasures?

Are you worried about wasted years in the past? Fear not. God is the Great Restorer of lost years (Joel 2:25). His steadfast love never ceases and His mercies are new every day. You can start afresh now. His arms are outstretched towards you. Are you ready to walk with Him?

Once again, just as Myles Munroe of blessed memory said, “When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.” If you do not know your purpose and walk in it, you will waste your life chasing after the wind.

Selah.
